LOOKING FOR A CAREER IN UPHOLSTERY?
Upholstery is a craft that has been developed over hundreds of years. A craft that is learnt over time and with practice. There are no quick fixes or magic formulas. Anyone can produce poor quality upholstery but good quality upholstery is achieved by eye, feel and judgement and these skills take time and practice to acquire. What took five years to achieve in the past, can't now be learnt in just six weeks. Short courses are only a snap-shot into the craft. Here at Wendy Shorter Interiors we pride ourselves in the quality of work our students produce. We will teach you how to strip back to the frame, repair and reupholster, using traditional materials and techniques, different styles of upholstery from the most basis drop-in seat through to the more complex armchairs and sofas.
If you are looking for a career in upholstery then you should be qualified with a high level of skill and a good understanding of the legal requirements. The Association of Master Upholsterers & Soft Furnishers (AMUSF) qualifications have been developed over a number of years by experienced practitioners in the industry. These qualifications have been developed to give you a good grounding in traditional upholstery skills. They are structured so that you consolidate your learning. You will not only learn how to do something but why it is done, and how it fits into context with the numerous variations of upholstered furniture. Every chair is different so these courses aim to give you the information required so that you can adapt your skills to each individual piece of furniture.
We offer upholstery courses at Stage 2, Stage 3 as well as a Combined Stage 2 & 3 course.
LEISURE & EVENING CLASSES
If you are looking for something less formal or just want to produce work for yourself then we can offer either weekly day-time leisure classes or evening classes, a one-week summer course or two-day short courses.
